Our curriculum

The school runs five days a week, 9 am to 4 pm. Pupils follow the syllabus set by NIEPID (National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities) — the national institute whose syllabus most special schools in India follow. Visit NIEPID.

The five curriculum areas

  1. Self-help skills
  2. Motor skills — grasping and fine motor
  3. Speech and language — receptive and communicative
  4. Social skills — manners, polite conversation, mixing in society
  5. Functional academics — basic literacy and numeracy, identifying objects, concepts of money and time

Pre-vocational stage

Begun when a pupil is ready. Skills developed include:

  • Patience
  • Self-control
  • Co-operation
  • Self-management

Graduation

Pupils graduate at the age of 18.

Fees

₹2,000 per month (≈ $25), or ₹3,000 per month (≈ $35) including transportation. Most families pay according to their economic status. No child is refused for inability to pay.

The real cost of educating one child is ₹5,000–6,000 per month — donors close the difference.

The full cost of one child is ₹5,000 a month. Families pay ₹2,000 or less.
